DermaLab – Enhancing with teledermatology
The German healthcare system's struggle with inefficient appointment scheduling and bureaucratic complexity has led to significant challenges for both doctors and patients, particularly in areas with limited access to healthcare.

These challenges lead to delays in treatment and a strained relationship between patient and doctor. DermaLab provides a solution to the digital and operational challenges of the German healthcare system in the field of dermatology.

Solution through DermaLab
DermaLab responds to these problems by using the power of teledermatology, which is particularly well suited to dermatology due to its visual nature. With the platform's ability to complete up to 90% of cases online, DermaLab enables more targeted and efficient treatment in the clinics for advanced diagnostics and procedures.
Design process and insights
The development of DermaLab was based on in-depth research and collaboration with industry experts, including dermatologists and teledermatology services such as dermanostic. Using methods like SWOT analysis and the 5-Whys technique, we iteratively refined our platform to meet the specific needs of a comprehensive telemedicine system.
Functions of the patient app & practice navigation
The patient app is intuitively designed and enables easy case submission and diagnosis verification. It simplifies appointment scheduling at recommended clinics through QR code-based check-in processes, with a focus on patient experience and data security.
Software Design
Our software for dermatologists provides a streamlined workflow and displays case information, treatment details and patient status in an intuitive, user-centric interface. It supports rapid data entry and diagnosis generation, increasing the efficiency of patient care. It also provides resources for patient education and simplifies the ordering of lab tests, including automated billing and cost management functions.
Conclusion
DermaLab contributes to ongoing efforts to integrate digital solutions into healthcare, particularly in the field of dermatology. By improving access to care and making the healthcare process more efficient for both patients and providers, DermaLab reflects the practical application of UX and interaction design principles in addressing real-world healthcare challenges.
